New Season, New Routine: Changing Self-Care Regimens with the Season

The days are growing shorter and the leaves will soon turn. Maybe change is just what we need. With autumn nearly here, it’s time to start thinking about how a new season demands new self-care routines.

It’s an appropriate time to consider how changes in weather play upon your skin. In autumn, summer’s humidity disappears, the air becomes dryer (and dryer still in winter), and this change, along with potentially less exposure to direct sunlight, alters the profile of your skin. So too does it change the care your skin requires.

Now is a good time to communicate with your skin specialist to reassess and adjust your regimen of inoffice procedures and at-home treatments appropriate to autumn temperatures.

SKINBOOSTERS

Autumn is time to support hydration. Speak to your medical skincare specialist about skinboosters. Skinboosters help your skin retain moisture while supporting the network of collagen and elastin to replenish your body’s natural store of hyaluronic acid. Used with a topical pharmaceutical-grade skin product containing HA’s, Skinboosters are great at moisturizing and reducing fine lines in the neck, face, and hands.

LASER RESURFACING

Laser resurfacing treatments are another great treatment to consider in fall and winter. A deep treatment with minimal downtime, laser resurfacing improves fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, pore size, and overall skin texture.

CHEMICAL PEELS

Chemical peels are customizable and relatively inexpensive. Personally, I receive a chemical peel once every three to four months, opting for a deeper peel when I can afford a bit more downtime in recovery, and lighter peels during busier times. I’ve seen this procedure work wonders and now that you’re spending less time in direct sunlight, the time is right to inquire about it as chemical peels are not usually performed on skin that has been tanned by the sun.

Autumn (and winter) are popular times to schedule treatments that have downtime and side effects some patients may wish to hide.

As autumn approaches, think: hydration. Think: new season, new routine. And never hesitate to reach out if you want to learn more about how changes in weather directly affect your cosmetic treatment regimen. I’m here for you.
